The Dutch Mushroom Days, scheduled for 6, 7 and 8 July have been cancelled last Friday by the organizers. Main reason for this decision was the cumulative cancellation of leading exhibitors.

“The number of cancellations by the Dutch exhibitors in particular has become so great that, after a weighing of interests, according to (the board of) the Mushroom Days Foundation, the success of the Mushroom Days 2022 is jeopardized. Without participants, the Mushroom Days cannot serve as a platform for meetings and knowledge exchange and the benefits no longer outweigh the costs. The board of the Mushroom Days Foundation therefore has no choice but to cancel the Mushroom Days 2022 for good”

With these words, the board announced the cancellation of the Mushroom Days last Friday the 15th. Some exhibitors expressed their concerns in March this year and advised to postpone the Mushroom Days to 2023. Main reasons for these concerns were and still are COVID (travel) restrictions in some regions in the world, especially in China. Travel restrictions would have a negative impact on the participating exhibitors but also on the event visitors. The other concern is currently how the situation in the Ukraine will further evolve. The negative financial climate is worrying people and bringing a lot of question marks as well. Next to this the timing of the Mushroom Days in July is not ideal.

These concerns were communicated to the organization, however positive signals on the other hand led to the decision to go ahead with organizing the event. A lot of discussions took place, as a group of exhibitors felt not heard by the organization, to consider postponement of the Mushroom Days to 2023. As a result of this, the organization was confronted by more and more cancellations of leading exhibitors which created a stripped-down exhibition floor. The revenues could not outweigh the costs anymore so the choice to cancel the event had to be made.

The organization is informing all exhibitors and visitors and is looking into the financial consequences for all those involved.
This situation is deeply regretted by the leading exhibitors and the organizers as well, but they also expressed looking forward to next year, when the circumstances are hopefully much better.

The appeal to register early for participation in the Mushroom Days was very positively answered. 80% of the floor space available for stands has already been reserved. We are very grateful for your cooperation. It shows great enthusiasm to make it again a unique event together. The exhibitors also expressed their concern that it might not (yet) be possible for everyone to visit the Mushroom Days at the end of March 2022. In particular, the quarantine obligation as it currently applies in some countries constitutes a serious travel restriction. As an organization, we shared this justified concern.

With the cancellation of the NAMC in Vancouver (June 2022) space was created in the international agenda of trade fairs and conferences for the mushroom sector. This decision is giving us the opportunity to return to our usual time of the year. Covid-19 vaccination coverage is rising worldwide, and more and more countries are announcing further relief of travel restrictions. A broad consultation has made the board of the Mushroom Days Foundation therefore decide to postpone the Mushroom Days by more than 3 months to the 6th, 7th and 8th of July 2022. The board believes that this decision does justice to the large number of registrations and the enthusiasm of the participants, as well as to the concern about the (currently) applicable travel restrictions. There are never certainties, but 3 months extra is valuable time.

The go/no-go moment of November 1, 2021, will therefore be a definitive go. The next edition of the Mushroom Days will take place on July 6, 7 and 8, 2022. Only government restrictions can prevent this edition to take place. Unexpected escalation of Covid-19 cannot be completely ruled out. Therefore, the current conditions of participation remain in effect for all subscriptions. The Mushroom Days Committee will soon start positioning the already registered participants on the floor map. The call to register soon for the remaining 20% of stand space remains actual.
The need to meet in person again remains strongly felt and the Mushroom Days are an excellent opportunity to do so.

The next edition of the Mushroom Days will probably be held in the spring of 2022.

The Mushroom Days Foundation announced this in a letter to their exhibitors. The event is scheduled for Wednesday March 30, Thursday March 31 and Friday April 1 in the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch in the Netherlands. That still seems a long way ahead, but the Mushroom Days Foundation is looking forward with great optimism and therefore wants to start with the preparations. But because of the Covid-19 pandemic there will be a slight difference. For this edition of the Mushroom Days there is unfortunately a limited set-up time due to a prior mega event. The desired hall is therefore only available on Monday around noon. This entails a different method than the exhibitors are used to.
A tightly controlled structure will require a clear on time final participation, the size of the stand and all desired facilities. Unfortunately it will not be possible to organize meetings for exhibitors to present their plans, nor for questions and room for discussion. The exhibitors were invited by letter to indicate whether they are positive about the intention to hold the 36th edition in the spring of 2022.

The Mushroom Days Foundation is once again looking forward to making it a success and inviting visitors with a warm welcome.
